The Cover-Up

In a group of four, we wrote, filmed and edited our first scene so we can learn the very basics of film making.

The first step we took was talking about different ideas bout what the scene could be about, and choosing the group favorite. We then wrote out rough script to follow, and the actors memorized what happened, and the different cues.

Then we tried out a few different angles to see which worked best for filming, and practiced it a few times. then we filmed it from different angles so we had a range of different shots to choose from in the editing process.

The next step we took was going back to the media suite to watch our clips and start to edit. We chose what clips to put in each bit of the scene to make it make sense, and then we added in some titles, and transitions. we also decided to add in some bloopers at the end. we then listened to all the audio clips and decided which fit the genre of our piece the best and chose different music for the opening title, the actual footage and the bloopers title. We used ducking so we could hear the dialogue over the music.

This is the finished product:
I feel as though what we created was decent for the time we spent on it, and the amount of knowledge we have when it comes to film making. As our first film it isn't too bad and we now feel more comfortable with the different aspects of the process. The editing of the clips works, and we don't have any transitions to the next clip that look too dodgy. The music also suits the scene and we paid attention to the volume of it so it doesn't drain out the speaking too much. This being said, we could have made sure the camera was more steady so that the actors stay in frame, and found a more suitable location to film on such a windy day, and the wind did make it harder to film, and makes it hard to hear the actors.
